A powerful barrier built around 54 years of community journalism was virtually broken when Mayor Dan Neri Lim ordered the investigation of tax payments of the Bohol Chronicle, the province's leading bi-weekly.

A media institution like the Bohol Chronicle which was believed untouchable among media peers went under the microscope when the Office of the City Treasurer started the ball rolling when it blew off the lid on the media giant's business tax liabilities.

Anti-drug refresher course for
police chiefs, intel offrs held

CHIEFS of police and intelligence and investigation officers from all over Bohol's 47 towns and one city trooped to the provincial police office in Camp Dagohoy, Tagbilaran City yesterday for an anti-illegal drugs orientation seminar organized by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) here.

Gov. Erico Aumentado welcomed the move, lauding PDEA Region 7 Assistant Director Randy Pedroso; Sr. Supt. Edgardo Ingking, Bohol police provincial director; IO3 Yogi Felimon Ruiz, PDEA Bohol provincial officer and his assistant, IO1 Earl Rallos for inviting Undersecretary and Dangerous Drugs Board Vice Chair Clarence Paul Oaminal the noted drug-fighter from Cebu. Motion for reconsideration of
Corella SB secretary denied

The motion for reconsideration to recall the appointment of the former secretary of the Sangguniang Bayan of Corella was denied finally by the Civil Service Commission-Manila in a ruling handed down recently.

The denial was based on the premise that no new evidence was presented nor new valid arguments to warrant the reversal or modification of the assailed decision was raised.

Shame

Some people just don't care.

While governments all over the world frantically search for solutions to the worst economic recession in this generation, all that the Arroyo administration can think of is the merger between its two major partners for the next election.

We just don't know if this was a calculated move to distract the people. Knowing that Filipinos are suckers for elections, talks on the preparations for the 2010 polls certainly gave them something to divert their attention. FULL TEXT
